Steam Play Modes
In the latest [steam version](\releases) of Killer Queen Black, you can play in Local or Online **play modes**.
# Online Play Modes
Online play can be in any configuration, two people sitting on a couch teamed up with two other people online, four players local playing another team of four online, or everyone remote, etc. The only rule is that everyone who shares a screen (physically sitting next to each other, a.k.a. "couch stack") has to be on the same team.
## Create a Match
Create a Match to set up a lobby. You can create a private lobby with a passcode, or a public lobby that anyone can join. Fill your lobby with up to 8 players (and/or bots) and start the game. Public lobbies will allow other players to join your game mid-match and replace a bot. Public lobbies are encouraged - meet and chat with members of the [KQB Community](/community).
As the lobby owner, you control match settings and can boot players from your lobby. If you leave your lobby, it will end the match for everyone who joined your lobby.

## Join a Match
Join a Match that has spots open! You will replace a bot in a game that you join. Ping (in ms) lets you know how much lag you can expect in performance, due to how far you are from the host (lobbies are peer-to-peer). Choose a lobby with a lower ping number for better performance.
You can also Join as a Spectator to watch a match in progress.
# Local Play Mode
## Local Wireless
Local Wireless allows two Nintendo Switch consoles to connect, for a total of eight players on two screens.
### Step by Step Instructions for Offline Play with Nintendo Switch
1. In the Main Screen press **L+R** to **add** up to 4 Controllers (from the players who want to play)
2. Then every player has to press **-/+** to **join**
3. Go to **Local Wireless** and create a **room**. (If you have a second Switch for 8 players do the same but don‘t create a room just join the one that should be there (didn‘t test with second switch yet)
4. Now every player can decide what role they want to play
5. In match settings you can choose which maps can be played
6. Now just start the game and have fun!

#Original Play Modes
## Quick Play
In Quick Play, you could hop in solo or with your friends and play against other teams in exhibition matches that didn't affect your overall score.
Quick Play placed you into a match as quickly as possible. This meant you would likely be dropped into the middle of a match in progress. Additionally, Quick Play used bots to fill in for absent teammates. Quick Play naturally had no effect on your ranking.
## Ranked
In Ranked mode, you put it all on the line. You could hop in solo and get matched with other players, or join in with up to three friends and compete against other online teams to increase your score and rise in the leaderboards!
It often took a long time to begin a Ranked match, as one would not begin until a combination of exactly 8 players were looking for a match.
